Training from Tuscany to Naples

How long will it take to train from Tuscany to Naples? Is there a best town to leave from in Tuscany? How long will the trip be from Tuscany to Naples? Should we get on the high-speed train in Rome and go to Naples? Thanks...Pam

You can find Italian train schedules, routes and ticket prices through Trenitalia, the Italian National Rail website - www.trenitalia.com. There are direct, high-speed trains nearly hourly from Florence to Naples, taking 2.5-3 hours. Chiusi would be another option (as long as it's not a Sunday, when most car rental offices are closed). Trains departing Chiusi are mostly slower, InterCity or regionale trains taking 3-4 hours. There are a few direct trains, but most involve a change in Rome.

Florence is in Tuscany and is a major rail hub. You can get a high-speed train there direct to Naples. Can be done in 2 1/2 hours on some trains, but a little under 3 hours is normal.

How long - depends on where in Tuscany you start from.
Look up times on www.bahn.de
Book tickets (can also look up times, but less user friendly) on www.trenitalia.com

High speed - yes, unless you are on a really tight budget you do not want to waste hours on multiple "Regionale" trains.

But, you do need to know where you are going from (which station) and to; and you need the real Italian names of the stations, Napoli, Roma etc. or you will confuse the website.

I did a similar trip myself last summer, taking the train from Florence to Naples. It was much easier and faster than taking it from Orvieto, which I had done on my previous trip.
