Train Venice to Bolonzo

Can anyone tell me how far in advance can I book train tickets? We want to go Saturday 4 Oct and return the 8th. I went on the Trenitalia and the response N/A so I figure there is time frame in which you can book. They are 5 of us so I think making them in advance is best. I have only taken the train spur of the moment but there were just 2 of us. We are coming from Ljubljana by bus same day.

Thanks all tips welcome.

Can we get an idea of where Bolonzo is? Could you mean Bolzano?

I think Sam hit it. If you put in "Bolzano," it auto-fills "Bolzano Bozen" (the latter is the German name), and I can see schedules and prices for your days.

Of course, if you didn't mean Bolzano, that won't help.

You need to spell the name of your destination city correctly. You'll have similar problems if you go to the Amtrak website and look for a train from Philselfie, PA to Whatshitown, DC.

Christine,

Could you verify that your destination is in fact Bolzano? Also, where in Venice does your Bus from Ljubljana arrive?

The trip from Venice to Bolzano will be about three hours, and in most cases you'll have one change at Verona Porta Nuova. It's likely that the trains on the first leg of your trip will be a Freccia or other premium train, which means your pre-purchased tickets will be specific to one train, date and departure time. If your Bus is late, you can NOT use those tickets on the next train.

Sorry, I did mean Bolzano and I spelled it correctly in my search. I FINALLY found all the fares and times but the site wants me add a code for each passenger?? Not sure what that is or where I find it. We will be leaving from the main station in Venice which appears to be S Lucia Venezia. The bus may be late but it's a chance we will have to take. We built in a 2 hour time between arrival and departure. We will have have been on a 3 week organized tour and have a week on our own so we decided to see some of the Dolomites and Venice--Limited time.

I also checked Rail Europe. On the site I could not find the time I wanted. Are there any other sites I should check?

Thanks

Christine,

Thanks for clarification. I wasn't sure whether your Bus would be arriving near Venezia Mestre or Venezia Santa Lucia, but it doesn't make much difference (except when buying the tickets of course).

You might try the ItaliaRail website as it's reportedly much easier to navigate than the Trenitalia site. I would NOT suggest using Rail Europe!

The DRD bus from Ljubljana arrives at 11:30 at Venezia Mestre station. If that is your bus, that is where you need to depart for Bolzano from.
There is a direct Eurocities train at 13:47 for 31 euro per adult from Mestre.

If you don't have a Corporate ID or Loyalty Code, I'm sure you can leave those spaces blank on Trenitalia. Through Rail Europe, the same direct trains cost $45 per adult, plus a shipping fee of $18 for the whole order, since they don't offer that one as an e-ticket.
