Train travel Varenna to Tirano

1 - Is it possible to travel by train from Varenna to Tirano around August 27 or 28? It looks like the train transfers to bus in Colico.

2- Leaving from Chur, if we want to do Zugspitze and we are using public transportation, would it be better to travel to Fussen or Innsbruck?

Planning to purchase Eurail Pass if that matters.

  1. The railway line north of Colico will be closed for renewal works from June 26th to September 9th (included).
  2. I would travel Chur - Sargans - Innsbruck - Garmisch. The bulk of the trip is the Sargans-Innsbruck leg, on frequent international trains. On the contrary, the area around Fussen is not easy to travel on rail.

1 - so the only way, fastest way, from Varenna to Tirano is by bus from Colico. Correct?

I have read the news on Italian railway websites, as there are already protests about the closure of the line; people are afraid that traffic could saturate the SS36 road. So it will be the only, but not necessarily fast way. Buses will likely be substitution of trains, so the same ticket will be valid, and will be likely leaving in front of railway station.
