Train travel - Validation

I have 2 train tickets

  1. Milan to Florence
  2. Florence to Rome

Its got a date/time on it and a QR code. Do I need to validate or "check in" before I board?

Do the tickets mention that you need to validate/check in before travel?

No but they don't mention that I don't have to either.

I have specified seats on the ticket. I read somewhere that fast trains don't need validation but I"m not sure what is considered fast.

If you have a seat reservation for a specific train, no validation is required. The fast trains are the Freccia trains, you are probably on Frecciarossa1000 on those two highly traveled routes.

Thanks, on the treniltalia ticket it does say Frecciarossa but on the Italo ticket, I don't know what type of train it is except the number is 9959 and 9955

ItaloTreno only runs fast trains with reserved seating- so no validation needed!

Validation is never required with Italo tickets. It is a different company from Trenitalia.

The only ticket requiring validation is a Regionale Train tickets purchased at the ticket window or ticket machine. To make the good or valid, it needs to be time stamp -- little boxes on the walls near the platforms. Insert and it stamps a time so that the ticket is valid for the next four hours on any Regionale train headed in the correct direction. ALL other Italian tickets are only good for the train, date and time, on the ticket. Miss that train and the ticket is no good.

Regionals tickets bought online with the Trenitalia app for a specific train MUST be validated with a “checkin” through the app or a a link provided, on the day of travel, before boarding the train.

This is different from the machine validation for tix bought at the station from a machine or the window.
