Does the train from Florence go to the airport? If not, best place to hotel for mid-day flight next day -- already have visited Venice. Grazia.

Nope, no rail connection to the airport.

I've stayed at the Titian Hotel a couple times. It is 500 mt. from the airport. There are some restruants near by (mostly poor and filled with travlers) and a market to buy food too. I think there is a hilton or best western or some other new big name hotel by the airport too, but i've never stayed there.
To get from the train station to the airport you'll have to take a bus. It's a short ride. You could taxi too.
