Train Travel to Sicily

Going to Messina in May from the Amalfi Coast. I see a train going from Naples that stops in Salerno and on to Messina. We are not sure where we will be at the time, so if we buy a super discount ticket from Naples to Messina could we board the train in Salerno with that discounted ticket? Anybody experienced this by any chance, Thank you in advance,
Paul

Reservations are train specific. you must board that specific train. If you board it a station later nobody will care, but it must be that train.

Paul, the train is long and slow, and the sights are not that wonderful on much of the trip. Why not use one of the lo cost inter EU airlines (that you can find on Whichbudget.com) and fly from Naples to Catania? Then hop on the bus or train is a quick jog to Messina.
