We are planning a 3 week trip to travel Italy. We are planning to visit in September. I have heard most train strikes happen on Fridays. I have tried to plan our travel days so they don’t happen on a Friday, however one of the days we travel will be a Friday. We will be traveling by train from Florence to Amalfi. My question is, should I try to change the day we fly to Italy and then change try to make changes so we don’t travel on a Friday at all? Would I have other options to get to Amalfi? How many times a month do train strikes occur?
You are seriously overthinking this. There isn't a strike every day, or even every Friday. And a planned strike may not even happen if the issues are resolved. You have 2 choices of high speed trains from Florence to Rome and then to Naples. If Trenitalia goes on strike, then Italo may still be running. Monitor the app for the train company you will be using. Or you could take a bus. Amalfi is not on a rail line, so it is unclear how you plan to get there from Naples.
To get to Amalfi from Florence take a fast train to Salerno then ferry or bus to Amalfi
Even on strike days there are always trains that run
Somewhere in a fairly recent thread is a link to that info
That’s the route we planned to take. Fast train to Salerno then ferry to Amalfi. I was just trying to see if we’d have options if there was a train strike. I have seen so many posts that say frequent strikes so was just trying to plan ahead.
Can I ask where you are seeing these posts that claim strikes Friday and so often?
I travel each year in Italy & the strikes I’ve experienced were on Mondays & Saturdays. I book the guaranteed times now & watch the list of upcoming strikes. Good luck!
I’ve watched a lot of YouTube videos on different parts of Italy that mention train strikes.
Ok
