Train travel Sorrento to Naples to Rome

Hi, we will be traveling from Sorrento to Naples centrale in September then to Rome. We plan on taking the DD train leaving Sorrento at 8:26 am, arriving in Naples Centrale station at 9:17 and then boarding the Trenitalia Frecciarossa train to Rome at 10:05 (48 minutes after arrival) Does this time schedule sound reasonable? Any advice on how to get from the circumvesuvian platform in Naples to the Frecciarossa platform area? This is our first train trip, and any helpful tips are most welcome.

I think it's all there in the same structure, although not on the same track--trying to remember. I was there in March, but did it the other way around in that we took the Freccia from Rome to Naples--then was picked up by private driver to go to Sorrento. Then, we took the Circumvesuviana on a daytrip from Sorrento to Naples (might be a little longer than 51 minutes, there are a LOT of stops--is this an express?), and then back.

It's not that huge of a place, not close to the size of Roma Termini, for example. All things on the schedule you say, you should be fine.

Have you bought your Naples/Rome Freccia tickets in advance? Pros and cons--it's cheaper in advance, you've saved the time of standing in line to buy the tickets, but be advised you have to take that train. If the CV is late, or you've miscalculated, you'll have to buy another full-price ticket for the next train, which would certainly be in the next hour. Me? I'm building some extra time in just in case, and would take the next train. The difference between advance or at the station should be only about 20-30 Euro max. Pick your poison...

Thank you,
Yes, the DD train is an express train (3 stops I think- Pompeii and Herculaneum then Naples?) we have already purchased our tickets. (Hopefully the circumvesuvianna train will run reasonably on time)

If you purchased tickets on-line it's not the Circumvesuviana but the Campania Express train for tourists.
As It makes few stops and costs much more no crowds of locals uses it and so it runs on time. Did you pay around 8 € per person, didn't you?

Both services call at Napoli Piazza Garibaldi station, the underground level of Napoli Centrale. Get off the train and look for signs saying "Stazione Centrale" (like this one: http://download.kataweb.it/mediaweb/image/brand_repnapoli/2009/10/21/1256113561088_stazione_centrale-il-corrid.jpg ) or for lifts and escalators going upstairs.

48 minutes is MORE than enough time to change trains. You will come into the underground Garibaldi Station on the Circ. Campania Express and it's connected to Centrale from whence you'll take the Frecciarossa to Rome. Once off the Express, you will not go outside: just follow the signs upstairs to Centrale.

I just did this route this morning. We took the Campania Express from Sorrento to Napoli Garibaldi (the lower level) and the train was packed, standing room only. We purchased our tickets at the train station 8euro each, but so much nicer than the regional train for the air conditioning and the time savings. The CE runs about once every 3 hours. Then go to the upper level to be in the Napoli Centrale station. Super easy. We had pre-purchase tickets for Naples to Rome.
