Train travel Rome to Naples

We are two women who will be leaving during the day from Rome to Naples. Any tips, safety issues (ie station ) we need to be concerned with?

No, it is perfectly safe. As always though just be mindful of your bag and if you have to stow it away form you lock it to the luggage rack.

Just be very mindful of those around you, and keep your money, credit cards, etc., in a safe place.
My hubby was pickpocketed either in the station, or on the train to Naples last year.

Kathleen, did your husband have his money etc secured and they still were able to get to it? Also, we will each have a small duffle and a carry on bag..do you think we could keep it with us at our seats? I will buy the lock/cable just in case we cannot.

I just envision getting to the station and being mobbed by people..the posts vary so much from "horrible dirty scary" to "not so bad"

Use a money belt for you money, credit cards and passports. Do NOT keep them in a wallet in your pocket. Keep your bags in front of you while in the station and put them in the overhead bin while on the train. If they are too big for the bin you can try behind your seat. If they don't fit, lock them at the end of the cabin in the baggage section.

Just be aware of your personal space. If someone gets too close, ask them to move or move yourself. Naples is not the best city when it comes to crime. Make sure you look like you know what you're doing even if you don't. Don't take help from anyone who offers it even if they say they work for the train company. they don't! Just be smart and be aware that people WILL steal from you if you aren't careful.

Surprisingly, approximately 480,000 people go through Rome Termini station a day according to the Trenitalia website. Crowded? You bet. Safe? Quite safe. It's just with that many people, you will always draw thiefs and other undesireables. Just be aware of your surroundings. On the high-speeds, your seat will most likely be back-to-back with the seat behind you. There is a V-space there at the floor level. It's large enough for a good-sized roller to fit in sideways. If you must place your luggage overhead, just make sure it's in view of where you are sitting.
