Train travel in Tuscany

Can someone please let me know if it is a smart move to take the train from Poggibonsi to Florence rather than driving to Florence from where we are staying in Castellina?

trains in europe are very convenient; the one in Florence will drop you off in the heart of downtown if you go to the right station. And you'll avoid running into the restricted-driving zone (ZTL) that will give you an expensive ticket.

You need to consider how many people you are traveling with and how much luggage you have, then you can price it out on the trenitalia site. But absent compelling reasons to the contrary, I'd take the train.

Joe,

I assume you're considering taking the train from Poggibonsi to avoid the issue with ZTL zones and fines for those driving in Florence.

If you can find reasonable parking in Poggibonsi, that's probably the option I'd use. The trip by train is only about an hour each way, and the fare is currently listed at 5.20€ which is quite reasonable.

If you're just planning to visit Florence on a day trip, be sure to carefully note the time of the the last train returning to Poggibonsi.

Happy travels!

You can also take the SITA bus from Poggibonsi. The train is just fine as well.
