Train travel in Italy ONLINE tickets

Anyone had any experience with online tickets. I want to purchase the tickets inline since I will be traveling during the holidays. Ternitialia is a little confusing. Standard, Amica, Fexi?? Not sure which one for my wife and I..

Also, what is "Please indicate your preferences for the place to assign to you." then it says "Uomo, Donna Compartimento intero." What is all this???

Help!!

Thanks,
Tom

You are only eligible for standard and Amica fares. Unlike here where discounts apply to everyone who qualifies, Europeans restrict their discounts to themselves.

The Amica fare must be purchased at least 24 hours ahead and like most discounts, are restricted both in changes and in number of tickets available. However, they offer 20% savings and are worth pursuing.

You can indicate whether you want window or aisle or select seats in a specific car. However, you may not get what you asked for if the requested seats are not available.

That is great news. I wasn't sure I was allowed to select Amica as a US tourist. Since it is so far in advance, I will try to do it now. We are a little worried about our travel on the holidays. I appreciate the help!!

I'm not sure if you are on the same site I went on but mine was the Rail Europe site. Easy schedules to follow, easy payment method and the tickets were delivered 2 days later. No problems.

My experience has been that raileurope is best for one thing - to find the maximum you are likely to pay for any trip. They do not tell you about discounts or specials or whatever. So you see what the worst case is by using raileurope to do planning and to get an idea as to connections and cost. Then you buy it from either the national rail company or DB and pat yourself on the back for saving so much.
