Train travel from Venice to Napoli

Hello, I'll be traveling in early April from Venice to Napoli in train then to the Amalfi Coast. What time do you suggest for my departure? I just downloaded the train line app as I read it was good to use. I will book 120 days in advance to get a better rate. All suggestions are greatly appreciated.

The FrecciaRossa with no changes takes a little more than five hours, leaves at Venezia Santa Lucia 10:35am but additional nonstop departures may be added, around the second week of December. Then at Napoli Centrale, you can go downstairs to the Circumvesuviana stop for Sorrento. There are frequent departures, takes a little more than an hour. From Sorrento, take a bus to the towns along the Amalfi Coast.

Or you can hire a driver to meet you either st Napoli Centeale or at Sorrento.

If you are continuing on to the Amalfi Coast, you'll probably want a morning direct train. Right now, Trenitalia is showing a 7:25 and a 10:25 departure. Its a 5 hour train trip. Looking at whats on sale now in March, you could possibly get Business Class (1st) for the same SuperEconomy price as Standard (2nd) on the 7:25 if you buy as soon as they go on sale. Just have to wait and see.

Why Naples and not Salerno? In April ferries may have already started the service from Salerno to the Amalfi Coast villages for the season.

Bear in mind that both trenitalia.com and italotreno.it/en run high speed trains from Venice to Naples/Salerno. Italo's discounted fares are often cheaper than Trenitalia's.

I am staying in Praiano. I do see the Frecciarossa train.

Also, which ferry and how long does it take to get to the closest village to praiano?

I was planning to have a driver meet me in Naples and drive me to Praiano, I already have a contact.

I'll be in Praiano for a few days then take the train to Rome.

Thank you.

There are no direct ferries from Salerno to Praiano, a train followed by a private driver may be the easiest solution.

Trenitalia.com of course shows only Trenitalia's Freccia trains. You must use Italotreno's site, that I mentioned above, to see their prices and schedules: www.italotreno.it/en

Google maps shows about 1.5 hour drive from Naples to Praiano and from Salerno to Praiano (via Pompeii, to avoid the slower coastal road. If you can't get to Praiano by ferry from Salerno, it makes more sense to drive from Naples.
