Do we need to book train tickets in advance for travel from Stresa to Bergamo 9/28/24?
You can do it with regional trains that do not need to be booked. Cost is 12.10 EUR. No reservations and price is always the same.
No - but you'll actually have to catch the bus at the Stresa train station and take it down to the Arona train station because the tracks are under repair. Also, there is no ticket counter at the Stresa station so double check with the bus drivers as they come through to get the right bus. It will arrive at the time of the scheduled train. The website for the Trenord regional train service is: https://www.trenord.it/en/. It appears you can make the trip from Stresa to Bergamo with just one train transfer (other than the bus) at the Milano Centrale station. If you're going to the Bergamo airport there are buses at the Bergamo train station.
Last Tuesday, (September 3) I took the train from Legnano to Arona and then caught the bus on to Stresa - then later reversed course to get back to Legnano. The next morning, I took the train from Legnano to Bergamo with a transfer at Pioltello Limito. When I returned to Legnano I went from Bergamo to Milan. Later I took another train back to Legnano. It was all pretty easy. You should have no problems and will enjoy both Stresa and Bergamo!
