Train travel from Rome

We will be arriving in Rome from London, traveling north to just outside Siena where we will be staying, Sinalunga actually. Any tips on trains from Rome? I have researched passes, as we plan to travel daily, not just in the Tuscany area, but also south of Rome in the Sabaudia area, as well as Abruzzo. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. 4 adults and 4 kids traveling.

Yes, you can take the train from Rome to Sinalunga. This won't be on Eurostar-type trains; they will be on either IC or Regional trains. Fare from Rome to Sinalunga 2nd class is 11.05E on the Regional and 19.10E on the InterCity (IC) train. The IC train gets you there 20 minutes faster and you will need seat reservations. No seat reservations possible on the Regionale train. Any child under 3 years rides free.

With that large of a group, you might consider renting a car or van in Orvietto (1hr out of Rome) and driving to and through Tuscany. Just don't drive in Florence becasue of the restricted traffic zones.

The train from Sinalunga to Siena is also a Regionale train. The fare is 4.20E for a 2nd class ticket.
