Train travel from Montreux to Florence

I'm new to the forum and this is my first post. My family of six will be visiting Switzerland, Italy and France in July and will travel by train and bus. I have studied the RS train info as well as the Man in Seat 61 website and think I have figured out most of our journeys; however, I am confused on what to do regarding one leg of our trip. We plan to purchase point-to-point tickets for all our trips since the majority of our travels will be in Italy. We initially start out in Switzerland and need to travel from Montreux, Switzerland to Florence, Italy in a single day, preferrably in the fastest way possible. From what I have researched, the fastest journey can be made in six hours (although I am not seeing that on various train websites). I understand that from Montreux, we need to travel to Milan and from there take a high speed train to Florence. I want to reserve my family's' seats on all our high speed trains but I can't seem to figure out how to get from Montreux to Milan without going on a long all day trip over 9 plus hours. The Trainline website seems to show only long, slow journeys between Montreux to Milan. Do I need to wait until June for a new train schedule to be released or should I book a bus trip? Any help is really appreciated for this much overwhelmed and confused traveler.

You should be able to do it in under 6 hours. The problem is that starting June 9, a section of the rail line between Domodosoosla, Italy and Milan is closed for a construction project. There are buses substituted between Domodossola and Milan. so you need tp take a train from Montreux to Brig, then a train to Domodossola, then the bus to Milan.

I see this. Montreux dep 9:11 to Brig arr 10:32, then Brig dep 10:40, arr 11:12, then Domodossola by bus (EC051) dep 12:30, arr Milano Centrale at 2:50 pm.
