We are arriving by cruise ship in Levorno and want to take a train to Florence. Is that a good idea?
See if this link works for you:
You will have to play around with your dates etc. but this gives you an idea.
Livorno Central to Florence - only issue is how far the train station is from the dock - I am not sure. Is this just a day trip from a cruise? If so - don't they provide transportation?
Link didn't work, so here it is:
Many Slow Travellers have expressed the interest to take public transportation from their cruise ship docking at Livorno to Pisa, Lucca, Florence and beyond.
For many, this requires taking a taxi to the Livorno central train station, then a train to their destination.
But DID YOU KNOW that there is regular bus service, Monday through Saturday, from the Livorno Stazione Marittima to both Pisa Airport and to Pisa Central Train Station! From the Pisa Station, it's a very easy connection to Lucca, Florence, or points in-between, as well as to points north of Pisa all the way to the Cinque Terre.
Bus service is provided by ATL Livorno bus lines, and it is bus line 101, which connects the Stazione Marittima in Livorno to Pisa (airport and train station). Travel time to the Pisa train station is approx. 32 minutes, and buses run from early morning to early evening, at intervals ranging from 45 to 90 minutes. One-way fare is 2.30 Euros, or 3.50 Euros if purchased on board.
BEWARE: Find out where your cruise ship will dock in Livorno. If your cruise ship doesn't dock at or near the Stazione Marittima, you'll have to take a taxi to the Livorno train station. The Moby Lines and the Corsica Lines ferries (both to Sardinia and Corsica) dock at the Stazione Marittima.
