We will be traveling to Varenna and Bellagio in June. What is the best train route to use from La Spezia to
Varenna? The times are listed but the fare is not. Is there still a train running to Varenna from La Spezia?
Please advise on the best way to get there. We will be going to Bellagio first but I thought that the train ran to Varenna and a ferry was taken to Bellagio. Am I correct?
Thanks in Advance!
Thank you for your prompt reply. I have a question about the train reservation for the first leg of the tri. Can you purchase it at the station in La Spezia? Should we purchase it when we arrive at La Spezia for our 2 day stay in Monterosso or can we purchase the reservation when we leave La Spezia on our way to Varenna. I also put a fictious date in about March but I still did not get a result with a cost. Only time but no cost. Ferrovia site I believe.
Thanks

Brenda,
Yes, there's definitely a train running from La Spezia to Varenna, but you'll need to change at Milano Centrale. When you disembark at Varenna-Esino you'll walk down the hill to the docks in front of Albergo Olivedo. That's where the Ferries depart for Bellagio (trip is about 20 minutes).
An example of this particular trip is a train departing La Spezia Centrale at 10:40, arriving Varenna at 15:23 (time 4H:43M, 1 change at Milano Centrale, reservations compulsory for the first portion of the trip, second class fare listed at €27.10 PP). The "layover" at Milano is 25M.
I used an arbitrary date to check this, so fares and times may be slightly different at the time of your travels.
That's an easy trip.
Happy travels!
Did you check the schedule for the train from Monterosso to Varenna?
