Train travel from Florence to pisa to CT

My Boyfriend and I are traveling from Rome to Florence to CT to Venice at the beginning of May. We are planning to get a 3 day Italy pass to train 3 days during our trip. We are not sure the best way for us to stop and see Pisa for a few hours on our train trip from Florence to CT. Any suggestions? Do the non-regional trains stop at Pisa along the way to La Spezia? (we are staying in Levanto near CT).

Thanks.

buying a rail pass is probably more expensive than buying tickets as you go or all at once upon arrival in Italy. Furthermore it doesn't bring any convenience; for the hi-speed lines you'll still need to make seat reservations (at an additional cost).
