Train Travel from FCO to Civitavecchia

We are going on a Mediterranean cruise in mid-September. We fly into FCO and the cruise leaves from Civitavecchia the following evening. We have booked lodging in Civitavecchia. Is it possible to get a train from the airport direct to Civitavecchia or do we have to travel into Rome to get on a train to Civitavecchia? Our lodging is within walking distance from the train station in Civitavecchia. First time travelers so we are a bit concerned with getting from point A to B….

Or would there be a better way of getting there? We thought the train may be less expensive than other options.

Any guidance would be much appreciated!

The dedicated airport express train (to Rome) is more expensive than the 1 hr. Local train Rome-Civitavecchia. But that leaves you 3/4 mile from the cruise port. We walked it, but it was no pleasure with luggage.

I wonder if you add up the trains and taxi, would a taxi direct to the port hotel be similar? But there is little to do there at night. It is not the slightest bit reckless to spend the night in Rome.

As you are staying the night in Civi that doesn't matter much. Plenty of time next day either to stroll down to the port, take the direct bus from the station or the bus up to the cruise shuttle bus station then the cruise shuttle in.

I don't agree. Civi is a seaside resort for Italians- one of several sides to the City which most cruisers simply don't see as they dash through on their way to or from Rome. If you stay overnight you will also have time next morning for the historical walk of Civi- again totally missed by most cruise passengers- https://civitavecchia.portmobility.it/en/itinerari/top-routes/historic-port-civitavecchia

and on the uphill side of the main street there are several churches and quiet little Italian squares to explore.

Sure it is not the most exciting town in Italy but there are hidden sides to it.
