Planning on departing the port early morning after a cruise and traveling via train to Stresa in late May. It looks like the way to go would be to take the shuttle bus at the port and then a regular bus (?) to the Civitavecchia train station - Roma Termini - Milano Centrale - Stresa (regional train). It looks like a long travel day but achievable. I'm looking for any advice regarding purchase of tickets, time between trains at stations, etc. We do not want to overnight anywhere along the way because the goal is to get to Stresa to take the ferry into Switzerland. Thank you for any input.
www.trenitalia.com has the train schedules.
But I am curious about taking the ferry to Switzerland. Service is not very frequent, so I assume you are staying in Stresa for a day or 2. Otherwise, if you want to go to Locarno, easiest to take a direct train from Milan.
Thank you, Sam. Yes, the plan is to stay a few days in Stresa and enjoy the lake before catching the ferry to Locarno. The ferry schedule is not available yet but I’m hoping it follows what was posted this past summer. We’ll be working around the holiday too. I appreciate your input.
Can anyone advise on what time the Princess Cruises ships generally disembark if I carry out my own luggage? It looks like the ship arrives in port at 0600. I'm trying to pre-purchase train tickets from Roma > Stresa and wondering if we'll make it to the Roma Termini by 1150. Thanks for any input.
Dunno, but it looks like if you can make the 9:30 bus from the port to Civitavecchia, you can make the 9:58 train to Termini, arriving at 11:18.
