Train travel from Cinque Terre to Naples

Do you advise making train reservations for a trip from Cinque Terre (Monterosso) to Naples on a Saturday in September? How many train changes can I expect? What was your experience? Thank you.

Have you looked at the Rome2Rio website? Plug in departure and arrival towns and you get various routes. The best is about 6+ hours travel time: Monterosso to La Spezia, La Spezia to Rome, Rome to Naples. You will need reservations for the La Spezia to Naples portion but not for the Regionale from Monterossa to La Spezia. Links take you to the Trenitalia website to make bookings, make sure to use Italian spelling of town names.

Forget Rome2Rio, it is a secondary source, and often inaccurate. Trenitalia runs the the trains and they make the schedule and sell the tickets. https://www.trenitalia.com/en.html

Not all the trains for September have been loaded yet, so wait a while before buying tickets.

I agree with Sam, You can find the answers you need by yourself on trenitalia.com/en.html

Enter Monterosso in the From field and use as day of travel any Saturday before June 10. This way you will see the full schedules. Then pick an early hour of departure and click search.

On the next page the number of transfers will be mentioned next to the ticket price, but It depends on the departure time. I doubt you are going to wake up at 4 AM to take the only direct train to Naples that departs from Monterosso at 5:28 AM. I'd rather change twice and travel at civilized times.

The experience won't be much different from any other train you have taken before. That route is nothing special, it just takes al lot.
