Does anyone know if the trains will be/usually are running on New Year's Day? I will be in Rome heading to Florence (hopefully, by train), and would like to know if anyone knows for certain.
Thanks!
Peter

This is the kind of question that doesn't get many/any replies here, because the only people that know are locals, and even they don't always know.
You could submit a question to this person at this website: www.roninrome.com
Or go to a travel forum that has destination experts who live in Italy.
There are 53 trains a day that depart Rome for Florence. We can't see that far ahead but I doubt any serious reduction in service. Even in a strike, the rail systems don't shut down. The Italian rail system is just too important. The bus systems are, however, a different story. They will reduce to "festival" schedules which is really light.
