We are looking to book rail tickets ahead of time. The only site that seems to allow us to do this, this far in advance (traveling in September) is ItaliaRail. It is not one of the site Rick mentions. Does anyone know if it is a valid site? Thanks
ItaliaRail is a third party travel agency. Use the official train companies websites.
https://www.trenitalia.com/en.html
https://www.italotreno.it/en
It’s too early for September.
ItaliaRail is a reseller
The September schedules won’t even be posted til June so not sure what Italiarail is actually selling you
Wait and book with the official sites
Trenitalia -Fast trains and regional trains
https://www.trenitalia.com/content/tcom/en.html
Italotreno - Fast trains only
https://www.italotreno.it/en
Both have easy to use apps
If you just want to get an idea of routes and prices you can search for a date-same day of week- in a month before a June
The schedules don’t change much if at all
Official tickets are not available yet. I’m looking to buy for this coming June and I have to wait another month or so. Be patient.
September schedules, fares and level of service haven't been decided, yet. ItaliaRail is just taking your money in advance for nothing. No re-seller can sell train tickets before the train companies.
Use a day of travel before June 11 for your planning, then get your tickets on trenitalia.com or italotreno.it in late May. Nobody buys September tickets in February.
Follow Dario advice to the letter. Absolutely correct. Also, if your travel involves any Regional trains, buy those ticket the day before or day of travel. Internet R tickets come with additional restrictions.
Thanks all! Very helpful. I am a newbie traveler. : )
And it’s good that you are asking questions!
