Train travel; Tuscany to Amalfi

Late Sept.,we will be traveling from Siena towards Naples, but staying in Praiano and want to take the train. Any suggestions onthe best way to do this? and about how long does it really take? thanks!

Fastest way is probably to go to Florence from Siena (by bus probably faster if you are staying on top of the hill in Siena city center). Then from Florence you have the following options: 1. Take a Freccia train to Naples (less than 3 hrs) Once in Naples take a Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento (70 min)
Once in Sorrento take a bus to Praiano (65 min) 2. Take a Freccia train to Salerno (may require change in Naples) (~ 4 hours) Once in Salerno take a bus to Praiano (probably with change in Amalfi). (about 1.5 hrs). Alternatively, from Naples you could take a ferry to either Amalfi or Positano, then a taxi or a bus to Praiano. (Praiano is half way between Positano and Amalfi). No matter what route you take, it's a trip that will take you almost as long as your flight from the US to Italy.

You won't be able to do this all by train, but there are a few options.... Train to Naples, then take the commuter train (circumvesuviana) to Sorrento, and then a bus will be your transport from Sorrento over that way.... or Take a train to Salerno, then hop on a ferry to Amalfi or Positano, and then a bus to Praiano.... I haven't done this trip personally, but maybe others can chime in...

Thanks for the feedback! wow,for some reason I did not think it would take that long; maybe we'll take the train to Naples, then hire a driver to get us to Praiano....must do more research, thanks again and happy travels!
