we ( my husband and 3 kids) are traveling from Rome to the Amalfi coast by train. Should we go to Salerno or Naples? and then take a car to Amalfi? I also looked into a driver from Rome down to the coast. any suggestions or idea for easy travels.
Take the train to Salerno. From Salerno take a ferry to Amalfi.
What time of year? The ferries stop running in the fall through spring.
It's much easier and cheaper to reach the town of Amalfi from Salerno than from Naples. Many people prefer the ferry from Salerno to Amalfi, but there's also good bus service should the ferry not fit your schedule or it's off-season for the ferries.
theredbackpacktraveller, if I had paid 32 € pp for a gondola ride "to avoid the queues" I would refrain from Acting as a travel expert.
