Train Transportation. Venice - Florence - Rome

We will be traveling to Italy this coming November and will be taking the train from city to city, and just want to make sure we plan accordingly.

This is our itinerary: Venice - Florence - Rome. (Also possibly half day-ish trip from Florence to Pisa then back to Florence)

I was looking at the Trenitalia website (http://www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en) and looking into buying the tickets in advance. In Venice I guess we would be boarding in Venezia Santa Lucia and arriving in Florence to Firenze S. M. Novella? Is that the major train station in Florence?

The train station in Rome would be Roma Termini? So the trip from Florence to Rome would be Firenze S. M. Novella - Roma Termini?

If we decide to go to Pisa as well, the train station would be Pisa Centrale?

Thank you!

If willing to commit to a fixed schedule, then you should buy the tickets ahead of time for the fast trains as the discount can be substantial but recognized that there is no change once purchased. Miss the train and the ticket is dead. The tickets will be for a specific seat, in a certain coach, at a fixed time and day. The one exception is the Regionale trains - think local bus on tracks. No reservations, open seating, no seat ?? stand till one becomes available. Those tickets are best purchased in the station at a ticket window, ticket machine or even a travel agency in the town. BUT --- since they are open tickets that can be used anytime on any Regionale train going in the right direction, the ticket must be validate (time stamped) in one of little blue/green/yellow boxes near the tracks prior to boarding. Watch the locals do it. The ticket to Pisa mostly likely would be a Regionale train.

In Pisa you can also get off at the Pisa S. Rossore station, from where it is a mere 10-minutes walk to the main attractions.
