Can anyone tell me how big the train station at La Spezia Central is? I ask because a possible scheduling option has me getting into La Spezia with 8 minutes to spare between trains. I know it's cutting it close. Is it possible? Thanks.

First Timer, I assume you'll be changing trains in La Spezia and continuing to the Cinque Terre? Which of the five towns are you staying in? La Spezia is a larger station (they even have a McDonalds!), but eight minutes should be more than adequate to change trains. The local train is usually easy to spot, but be sure to check for the correct track number. Happy travels!

8 minutes there should be enough, but as you are getting on, likely, a fast train requiring reservations to Rome, if it were me I would keep an ace up my sleeve and take a previous train to La Spezia so I would not be affected if the local train ran late. I wouldn't want to risk an expensive at-the-moment replacement ticket to Rome for gambling on a connection that might not work.
