I looked up train travel from the mainland to Venice. It said because of Covid, train and bus service has been reduced. I didn't see anything in the mornings. Are there other trains? I know this can't be right or is it? Has anyone been there recently?
Where are you looking and from where to where?
I just picked a random day in May
Trenitalia has about a dozen trains an hour from S Lucia to Mestre in the am
Where are you looking? you should use the Trenitalia website: https://www.trenitalia.com/
Your destination will be Venezia S. Lucia. I checked trains for tomorrow from Venezia-Mestre and found about a dozen between 6 AM and 7 AM. There were 15 between 8 AM and 9 AM.
Disclaimer first: I haven't been to Venice since 2018.
I have checked the trenitalia website and choose a random day starting at 7am. If you stayed in Spinea like you mentioned in other post, there is a train every 30 mins and the trip takes about 20 minutes. If you boarded the train at Mestre, then there is a train every 5 minutes and the trip takes about 10 minutes.
https://www.trenitalia.com/en.html, type in where you start, either Spinea or Venezia Mestre and destination "Venezia S. Lucia".
Thank you. I googled trains in Italy. I'll check out the one you both mentioned.
One trick to using Trenitalia is that you need to put in not only a date, but also the earliest time that you want to travel. If you’re not seeing morning trains, it may be because you haven’t been doing this.
It would help to know where you're travelling from on the "mainland", and what date you'll be travelling? As the others have said, there are frequent trains on that route, both Regionale and fast trains.
If you haven't travelled by train in Italy before, there are a few potentially expensive caveats to be aware of. If you need more information on that, post another note here.
