What is the best way to get from Rome airport to Sorrento?
Note that the regional train from Rome to Naples only takes a short time longer than the Eurostar and is about half the price, although it doesn't run as often (maybe hourly versus twice hourly). I've used that option, and it's worth considering. Circumversuviana to Sorrento runs every half hour, so never too long a wait when changing trains in Naples.
Actually, the "regionale" train between Rome and Naples costs ONE HALF that of the Intercity (IC) train and ONE QUARTER that of the fastest Eurostar AV train!!!
But note that the "regionale" does take the longest, so don't consider it if you're in a hurry!!!
I advise travellers to take the IC train between Rome and Naples, because it costs HALF that of the AV train, but is still acceptable in terms of travel time.
The AV trains take a mere 70 minutes; regular ES trains take 105 minutes; the IC takes 2 hours, and the "regionale" two and one-half hours.
Only the AV train takes the high-speed rail line. All other trains take the old rail line. The AV and regular ES trains are non-stop. The IC trains make three stops. The "regionale" trains make about 13 stops.
Thanks for catching my misstatement, GAC. I meant to suggest the intercity train.
