Train to Florence from Rome Fiumicino Airport

We are flying to Rome- da Vinci -Fiumicino and need to go directly by train to Florence. I have seen conflicting reports on how to accomplish this. Do we have to go into Rome to the Termini station and then get the fast train to Florence, or is there a direct departure to Florence from the airport train terminal?

There is one or two direct trains per day from FCO to Florence. If your flight schedule doesn't fit that train, then you have to go into Roma Termini and take the train from there.

Hi Bob. Welcome to the forum. To see the schedule, use trenitalia.com with Fiumicino Aeroporto and Firenze S M Novella, and the time you expect. If your trip is far in the future, all trains may not be shown, so use a date in the next week or two to get a sample. You will see 3 or more trains per hour, most will be about 2.5 hours total, with 1 change at Roma Termini or Roma Tiburtina station; either is fine. Best to wait and buy your train tix when you get there, as there is huge capacity, and it's very hard to predict your arrival timing. Have a great trip!

I am always a little carefully in using the word "direct" as some interpret that as non-stop. Direct just means no change of train. You will still make a stop in Termini but stay on the train if it is going to Florence. Or the other option is Leonard Express (local train between airport and Termini) and change to train headed to Florence. Give yourself 30 mins at least, maybe 45, to make the train change.

I just looked into this because I'm doing the same thing soon. My notes say there is a 1:53 train to Florence with no change. I think there is an earlier one but it was before my flight lands so I didn't bother writing the time down in my trip notes. I'm expecting to train to Termini & transfer there as my flight is scheduled to land at 8:30 am. If by chance it's delayed enough to catch 1:53 I'll do that one but I hope not. You can check on the Termini website which is very easy to use. The station in Florence is Firenze S.M. Novella.

You can also go to Roma Tiburtina and transfer there. It’s one stop farther from the airport, but one stop closer to Florence. It ended up working a touch better for our schedule that way.

We booked the Tiburtina - Firenze leg in advance because we snagged a family fare. Then we bought our FCO - Tiburtina tickets after we got through security.
