I'm wondering how early I should plan to arrive at FIUMICINO for a 2:45 PM departure home. I'm planning to take a 9:48 train from Naples that will get to the airport by 12:18. Is that enough time to catch a 2:45 flight or should I take an earlier train? Thank you!!
I have a similar question. In March 09, we will have a 06:55 departure from Fiumincino to Frankfurt. So, the how early and how do we get there (from Rome)question applies to us too. In Frankfurt we connect to Seattle.
Liz, I hope you don't mind me horning in on your querry. The Helpline is always fo helpful. Thanks
Liz, if I were in your position I would take the 08:48 train from Naples. Why? Because for a flight home across the pond I'm most comfortable getting to the airport a full three hours before departure. The most important thing, however, is to check with your Rome-Boston airline and see how early they want you to check in.
Liz, I agree with Tim. For an international flight out of FCO, you're cutting it a bit close. Taking the 8:48am train is much better.
Annie, your FCO flight is early but domestic and not international. Still, I suggest that you get there 2.5hrs early. That means that you should depart Rome around 4:00am. That being said, the Leonardo express doesn't make its first run of the day until 5:52. You will have to have your hotel provide early private transportation to the airport. Or, you can stay in Fiumicino the last night and get shuttled to the airport.
Another vote for Liz's option. Trains usually are on time but never risk your transport connections to the airport!
Just a reminder for those of you flying DIRECTLY back to the States from Rome on a US flagged carrier (Delta, NW, United, etc.) - You now must go through the new Terminal 5 which IS NOT connected to the Airport - about 1/2 mile away. Once you go through "enhanced" security you will be bussed back to the C terminal area... so now going international is taking a little longer than before!!!
We had a friend who MISSED her US flight because she was only there about 2 hours in advance (Granted she was rotating back and had 7 suitcases!)
If you have an EU connection - Frankfurt, AMS, etc., then this would not apply to you. This new terminal is strictly for flights to the US and flights to Israel on El AL. Make your plans accordingly!
Ciao,
Ron
Liz and Annie asked two different questions. IF Liz is on a direct flight to the US then the time may be a little tight. For Annie, it is a domestic flight to Frankfurt and then the international flight home. It is a whole different procedure for Annie.
Thank you all for your help! I'm not flying directly home. I'll be connecting through Zurich. I'll still plan to take the early train from Naples. Thanks again for the help. You guys are great!
