train to EXPO Milano from Turin and return

Is a reservation a good idea for this route, since the the Expo is a much visited event? Does anyone have experience riding this route lately? I would rather not make one and lock myself into a certain time to come and go, but if the trains are full, I will.

If you don't want to lock yourself in a specific time/day, just buy the ticket when you decide to go. All you can save by buying early is 6 euro. The chance of having a fully sold out train is zero.
The options from Turin to Rho (Expo) are:
1. Freccia high speed train from Torino PN (or PS) to Milan Centrale, then another regional train to back track from Milano to Rho. The full (base) price on the Frecciarossa is €30 on standard class.
2. Regionale from Torino to Rho directly (so you don't go all the way to Milan). The price on 2nd class is €12.45.

Option 1 is faster, as it uses the new high speed line, in spite of having to back track to Rho on the slower rail line,
Option 2 uses the old rail line (which passes through Rho), therefore no back tracking is necessary. However it takes longer because the Regional trains makes several stops (including Rho/Expo). Regional trains offer no discounts and no reservations are even possible. They work like buses or subway trains. As long as there is room to squeeze you inside, you can come on board.

Probably depends on the day of the week. If you want to go on a particular and it is sold out, you will be able to get a train to Milan and backtrack on a local train or the Metro. Obviously a direct train will be quicker and a bit less money, but if there is a will, there is a way.

Roberto till October 31, all trenitalia's and italo's high speed trains going to Milan call at the Expo railway station, there is no need to backtrack.

Thank to all for the advice. I think we will wait and buy Freccia tickets at the time and not reserve now.
