Train to CT

Is it possible to take a train from Venice to Sestri Levante? I have tried checking it out web and keep getting unexplained errors. If so how many transfers and approximate time for trip. I was going to rent a car and drive but have decided to wait to rent a car in Sestri Levante. Thanks.

Thanks Doug. You are correct. I had to put in the Italian spelling for Venice. I found the same information you provided.

It's a little complicated to use the Trenitalia website but be sure to enter "Venezia" as your starting point.

I found a variety of trains and routes. It looks like the trip is 5 to 6 hours with 2 or 3 transfers, depeniding on if you go through Milan or through Prato.

You can get there from Venice with no problem, and you will LOVE the CT. When we were there last month it was a real chore in the beginning, and even in the train station, because they often list a train going THROUGH your destination without mentioning it on the board. It became easier in a few days.

If you go to the Rail Europe site, www.raileurope.com, you will find an 800 number in the US and they will answer questions to help you make your plans. We bought a Saverpass from Rick's travel store (there were three of us) and it worked out well. With the railpass you will get a map of Europe, a RAIL map of Europe and a timetable booklet of trains all over Europe. It's much easier to travel there by train that you will expect. Good luck.
