Train to Cinque Terre

We're going to Italy in September and are planning to purchase all of our train tickets in Italy as we move around (unless we are able to find 'mini' tickets, of course). However, I noticed that most of the trains from Florence to Monterosso or La Spezia Centrale (Cinque Terre)have the letters 'NA' and cannot be selected for purchase when I was on the Trenitalia website. I'm concerned that this means they're selling out?! They only have one or two trains running those days that can be purchased, the remaining can't be selected, so I'm worried that I should buy them now! Any advice on this? Do they sell out this early? Or does 'NA' just mean I can't buy them online?

Those are regionale trains. You cant purchase more than a week out. You can plug in a date within the week to get the pricing. But, no, it isn't that they are sold out =) These are rarely ever sold out and can easily be purchased while you are there.

Leslie is right that those are regional trains and can only be bought a week in advance. There is no chance that they can sell out because there are no reserved seats and if you don't find a seat you can just stand. There are no mini fares for regional train so if you are looking to purchase tickets with the mini fare be sure that no part of the journey is on a regional train or you won't be offered the mini fare. If you do have a journey that includes a regional train, just book that part of the trip separately. This way you can get the mini fare for the longer journey on the faster trains. Donna
