Train Timing Question for Verona-to-Ravenna Route & Ravenna-to-Arezzo Route

For both the Verona-to-Ravenna route and the Ravenna-to-Arezzo route, I will be transferring at Bologna Centrale. I looked at a website post of the Bologna train station map, and the accompanying article mentioned that the station takes longer than 10 minutes to transfer because of the different vertical levels in the station platform design.

Could someone tell me how much time you recommend for transferring? I'll have a lightweight carry-on. The Verona-to-Ravenna route has one option that's 10 minutes. Since I will be staying up late the night before I leave to see the opera at Verona, etc. is there a better option than taking the 11:52 Frecciargento with a transfer to a Regionale at Bologna to arrive in Ravenna at 14:27? (I will be in Ravenna for two nights.)

For the Ravenna-to-Arezzo route, I was planning to take the 9:31 Regionale and transfer at Bologna to the Intercity to arrive at Arezzo at 13:00.

Thank you!

There’s another Regionale from Bologna to Ravenna that leaves at 13:06 which should give you adequate time. Since Regionale tickets don’t reserve a seat, if you miss the 12:52 to Ravenna, just take the next train.

Your choice for the Ravenna-Arezzo Trip is the most sensible.

Jean, a few years ago, I took a day trip from Verona to Ravenna, both great cities to visit. I didn’t have an opera night before my trip, but I took the fast train to Bologna at 7:52, with a very low advanced-purchase fare, and didn’t have any problem making the connection in ten minutes, arriving in Ravenna at about 9:52. Your 11:52 departure looks like same opportunity, only later. I believe the Bologna-Ravenna train is a Regionale, so buy your ticket for that leg in Verona, so that if you miss your connection, you can just catch the next train to Ravenna.

If you wait to buy the Bologna-Ravenna ticket until you get to Bologna, you also have the option of buying it at the newsstand, if the ticket window and/or machines are busy. Remember to validate that ticket!

Thanks so much for your replies. Glad to hear that I can just catch the next Regionale if I miss one! I’m used to buying train tickets that have a specific time and seat.
