Someone had posted that the train ride from Florence to CT is 4.5 hours, according to Ricks map it's 1.75 mins, does anyone know the travel time? Thanks!!
Hi Gina,
You can use the website www.bahn.de to search travel times between cities throughout Europe. You can change the language to english using the drop down box on the top right hand corner. Using the website, I get a time of approximately 2 hours to 2 1/2 hours from Florence to La Spezia which is very close to Cinque Terre.
I took this train in September, and if memory serves me correctly it was about 2 hours.
My searches on the trenitalia site show that it would be about 3 hours from Florence to Vernazza. The 1.75 hrs on the RS map that you're looking at is for driving, not the train.
Michael is correct. Here's the TRAIN SCHEDULE. Plan on 2 train changes - one at Pisa and one at La Spezia to get to Vernazza. It's really an easy process. The ticket machine or the ticket agent will give you one ticket for each leg of the trip.
On this trip, you have the opportunity to jump off the train at Pisa and see the leaning tower. It's a 30-40 min walk to the tower from the train station and the same going back. 3 hours later and you can jump on the next train through for the CT (as long as it's an R or IC train). There is a Cisaplino (CIS) train that originates out of Pisa and goes through the CT but this train will require time and seat reservations. Again, all of this is not difficult.
