Train Tickets Purchased for September 5

Thanks to this forum, I have become aware of a train strike in Italy on September 5, the day I am planning to travel from Innsbruck to Ortisei, Italy. I booked the tickets on the OBB app. They are for two trains -- one from Innsbruck to Brenner at 9:49 (OBB S-Bahn Train 3) and one from Brenner to Chiusa (Trenitalia regional train) at 10:38. I am trying to figure out if the second train will be affected by the strike. I assume the first one will not be affected since it is an Austrian train.

My tickets on the Trenitalia train look good on the OBB app, and when I go to the Trenitalia app, it is still possible to buy tickets on that train. Does that mean anything? Will I be notified by OBB if the Trenitalia train is cancelled?

The only site I can find that gives information on the strike is in Italian and is hard for me to decipher even using Google Translate.

I would appreciate any insights or suggestions on this. I am wondering if I should change my plans to travel to Ortisei on the morning of the September 4 before the strike starts or wait until September 6. Neither option is ideal, but I could manage Thank you.

This is a question that is difficult to have a firm answer. Personally I would not worry about it until the day before. Lots of strikes are announced but few are held. Second even with a strike some trains run. Third, your Italian train is a Regionale trains. They run frequently each hour and do not require a seat reservation. Unfortunately the "best ?" advice might be is to wait till the day before and see what develops.

Thank you, Frank. This is very helpful; I’m not familiar with how Italian strikes work. Unfortunately, I’m not the best at wait and see, LOL.

I am considering changing my plans to get to Ortisei a day early. I’d rather have one day less in Innsbruck than one day less in Ortisei. If I don’t do that, I will have a plan for a cancelled train in my back pocket.

I bought a regional ticket and went to the station and there was a strike and I bought the ticket an hour before departure. I was unaware of the strike although I was living there. So buying a ticket is meaningless with my experience. The strike may be called off but for now a national strike is called for. I've been impacted many times by strikes and several times this year. Sometimes they are cancelled or in the case of the pope's inaugural mass... postponed a week! Too soon to tell but they certainly do happen.

I'd recommend going to Ortisei a day early as you've considered. Not only will you avoid the strike but you increase the chances of being there in good weather. We were there last Sept and a storm came thru just before we arrived, leaving snow on the mountains and making hiking for the first 2 days a challenge.

Also from Brenner you can go to Bolzano and take the bus #350 up to Ortisei. So with an extra day another alternative would be to find a place to leave your luggage and visit Bolzano (including the museum with Ötzi) before going up to Ortisei.
