We want to take the train from Frankfurt to Berlin in three weeks from today. We heard it is cheaper to buy them earlier. What is the best way? Is that the best way? or is flying better?
I would ask this on the German forum.
- Go to the DB (German Railways) website: https://www.bahn.com/en/view/index.shtml
- Enter: FRANKFURT(MAIN) to: BERLIN
- Enter date (today + 3 weeks = Friday 27th April) and time
- Click on "Search"
- It will list lots of trains with prices for each train. I am currently seeing prices between €67.90 and €123.90, depending on which train you choose.
- The trip takes 4 to 4½ hours, city centre to city centre.
When you buy, you will get a PDF file sent to you attached to an e-mail. Print this PDF file out and bring it with you, this is your ticket.
You are actually too late for the cheapest tickets. If you pick a random date in June you will see prices starting from €24.90. Buy ASAP, the prices only go up.
In the above I have assumed you want to travel from Frankfurt am Main city centre. There are two Frankfurts in Germany. The other one is Frankfurt(Oder). You could also be starting from the airport (Frankfurt Flughafen), or a suburban station.
Are you making the trip from Frankfurt to Berlin after arriving on an international flight? It's generally not advisable to buy tickets to connect with a flight, in case of flight delays or whatever.
