Rome Train Tickets- Buy In Advance?

Two-part question:
We will be in Rome for one day & night before heading to Civitavecchia to board a cruise. We are staying near Termini Station that first night so we will be taking the train from there. Since we have to be at the port by a certain time, should I purchase our tickets in advance? Or am I needlessly worrying about departures and arrivals?
After the cruise, we have several days to explore Rome. On one of those days we will be heading to Naples to stay for one night. We have no set plans in Naples so are under no time constraints as to when we need to arrive. Again, should we purchase train tickets in advance or "wing it"?
Thank you for any and all input.

Train to Civitavecchia is Regionale
No need to buy in advance, no discounts and they can’t sell out
Buy in advance or at the station or use the app
Be sure to validate if you buy at station

Train to Naples is a fast train
If you are sure of date/time you can purchase in advance and take advantage of any discounts offered

Use the official train sites
Trenitalia-regional and fast trains
https://www.trenitalia.com/content/tcom/en.html

ItaloTreno- fast trains
https://www.italotreno.it/en

Both have easy to use apps

I agree with previous response - no need to buy the tickets to the port in advance. The ticket machines at the train stations are really easy to use. Just make sure to validate your ticket before boarding.

For Naples, I would buy tickets in advance to get any discounts or if you did have a specific block of time you wanted to travel during.

Curious as well...do you know how early in advance to buy the tickets in order to get a discount? A month? 3 months? Thanks
