train tickets between Florence and Monterosso

If we stop in Lucca for a few hours do we buy one ticket for the whole trip or two for the stop over. Do the tickets have timed usage? Same question for Monterosso and Siena with a stop in Pisa. I asume you have more options with trains that do not require reservations.

For trips under 200 km (which is the case from Florence to Monterosso) on Regional Trains the trip must be completed within 6 hours from the time of validation.
So it depends on how long you intend to stop if you want to do it on one ticket.

Fire up google translate and read this.
Seems to require travel complete within 6 hours of first validation of a Regionale ticket. You must be traveling on regionale trains exclusively.

The common train connections between Florence and Monterosso do not go through Lucca; it is a slight detour. Buy two separate tickets to/from Lucca so you don't have to worry about either the 6-hour time limit or about buying your ticket for the correct route. Activate each one in the date-stamp machine before you start that portion of the trip.

From Monterosso to Siena, Pisa is en-route, but again there's a timing issue. See the train lines on any of several maps in Rick's Italy book.

You can only do what you are asking on a Regional train because of open seating. On all other trains in Italy you would need two tickets with seat reservations.
