Train ticket to Rome Termini or Tiburtina?

When looking for train tickets from Florence to Rome, some trains go to Roma Termini and others go to Roma Tiburtina. Is it a mistake to get a ticket to Roma Tiburtina? Is Tiburtina very far out from the points of interest that we want to see like the Colosseum? We're only spending one day in Rome and have to take the train back to Florence in the evening and can't waste much time.

Termini. Tiburtina also has Metro and bus connections to the main sights in Rome, but why bother.

As Sam says, definitely Termini. It's much closer to the Colosseum, Forum, Pantheon, etc.

I suppose it depends on your final destination, Tiburtina is not that far from Termini, and to get from one to the other is a short trip and only a euro or two. Choose first based on schedule from Florence and price.

If doing a day trip to Rome, Termini without question. Everything is walkable from Termini.

I agree with the others - Termini! It's closer to the sights and also has good access to Bus or Metro.

Definitely Termini. The metro ride between the Termini and Colosseum stops is only about 5 minutes, and there are buses between Termini and many other sights. There's also a direct metro connection between Termini and the Spanish Steps/Vatican areas. Depending on where you plan to start or finish your visit, a taxi to/from your starting/finishing point is another option to consider.

Thank you for your helpful advice. I bought the tickets into Tiburtina before I discovered it was not in the same area as Termini, and before posting this question; but it sounds like Tiburtina is close enough not to worry and not worth the expense of trading tickets. Hopefully travel time into Rome with the buses is not too complicated or time consuming.

I wish you would have asked before acting -- BUT -- if you have question, just find the TI and they will point you in the right direction. Totally coming and going will probably suck up an hour of your time.

I got the return trip tickets out of Termini, so does it take about 30 min. by bus to the Colosseum from Tiburtina?

It may be as easy to take the Metro (subway). Total trip with walking and metro is only about 20-30 minutes, from Termini, maybe only 5 minutes less, not enough to worry about.

It’s ok. You’ll survive.
Once at a Tiburtina station look for the metro subway sign.
The metro line is the B line. Look for direction LAURENTINA (that is the last stop).
Get off at COLOSSEO, 6 stations after Tiburtina (two station after Termini).
Chances are you will get at the Colosseum more or less at the same time as if you had purchased the ticket to Termini. Sometimes trains get stuck in traffic after Tiburtina waiting for a platform to free up at Termini, just like airplanes get stuck in the tarmac waiting for a gate to open up. So no big loss of time.

Which train station is closest to the Vatican, easiest access and cost wise-Termini or Tiburtina?
