Train ticket help please

Hi,

My husband and I are landing in Rome at about 12:30 pm. We need to get a train directly to Naples where a car service will be picking us up to bring us to Sorrento. How do I get from the airport to the train station? Are train tickets bought ahead for a specific time? My worry is flight delays and making a specific train. Thanks so much.

Buy the train ticket to Naples from one of the Trenitalia machines when you get to Rome Airport.
The train will require a change in Rome Termini. Station. You can research that trip to get an idea of the schedule at:

Enter from Roma Fiumicino Aeroporto (Airport) to Napoli Centrale (Naples )

There's a train station at the airport. When you exit the secured area at terminal 3, go to your right and watch for the entrance on your left. There's an underpass between the terminal 3 arrivals level and the train station, and there's also an overpass from the departures level. If you arrive at terminal 1 or 2, simply walk to terminal 3. In addition to the ticket machines, there's a Trenitalia ticket window and at least one travel agency that sells train tickets. Once you have your tickets, you can call, text or e-mail the car service with your scheduled arrival time in Naples.

This might work for you: for 2 people it's fairly cost effective to take a taxi to Roma Termini. Taxis are regulated. I think the fare is 45 euro. The Leonardo Express is fine but it's a long walk from Customs to the train. Meeting a car service in Naples is easy but they do need to know the train you'll be on. They will wait, for a while.

There are a few things you could do to help: Maybe have your hotel deal with them? You could call when you know for sure what train you'll be on. You could purposely book a later train (that is if you are looking to save euros by making reservations early). That way you'd have a schedule that just might work.

If you haven't been before - you'll love Sorrento! Gorgeous views, the most spectacular sunsets, amazing seafood and everything you can imagine in lemon!

Ah, but then you have the long walk from the spot in front of Termini where the taxi drops you to the departing platform inside the station. The Leonardo Express deposits you inside the station at platform level.

Two apps that helped me tremendously Tripit & trenitalia. Tripit gave me the layout of the airports. Trenitalia allowed me to by my train tickets when I landed in Milan. I have Tmobile so accessing the internet was never a problem & I didn't get charged for data use while in Italy, so keep that in mind, if you have another phone carrier.

You can get a through ticket to Napoli Centrale at the counter, at automatic ticket machines or using trenitalia's app. Just say (counter) / push (ticket machine) / digit (app) "Napoli Centrale" and the system will work it out for you.

No need to queue twice, the airport station is Trenitalia's and both trains are run by Trenitalia.

Correct ---- You can buy both tickets at the ticket office at the airport train station. BUT be ABSOLUTELY certain that you validate (time stamp) the ticket for the Leonard Express prior to getting on. Fine is very high.
