train ticket

We will be visiting many cities in Italy and our train tickets from one city to the next are included in our tour price however, we will be in Florence for a few days and are wanting to explore Tuscany. Is there a ticket that we can purchase to get us unlimited use of trains or are we best purchasing tickets individually? I think we will be making three to four different trips on our own that we will need tickets for.
Thanks!

Short answer is that you can easily buy each segment, however it would be helpful to know which towns in Tuscany you wish to visit. Many are not accessible by train and most are via regionale trains, not the sleek high-speed freccia trains for which tickets can be purchase in advance for a discount. So, where exactly do you want to visit from Florence?

I don't know of any, but maybe. Lombardy has a very good one, but these types of things are up to the provincial governments, who provide subsidies for the regional trains. But these regional trains, because of that subsidy, are quite cheap. For instance, Florence to Lucca is 7.80 EUR each way on the direct trains. Pisa is 8.60 EUR, Siena is 9.30 EUR (although most prefer the bus). Just buy tickets at the station, out of the machine, and don't to forget to validate them in the stamping machine on the platform before boarding.

Since you are just buying a few tickets and mostly if not totally on Regionale trains, it would be the cheapest. There is no regional or city wide day pass as you might find in Germany or elsewhere.
