Just because they are planned it doesn't mean it always happen. Sometimes the Labor Unions decide to cancel it.
If there is one on the day you travel it depends if your train is a protected train (most long distance trains are), otherwise you just use other means of transport, like buses or cars, or just stay put on that date and travel the next day.

Without a knowledge of the power and reach of specific unions the process is still fairly opaque. But you can check specific dates and, hopefully, see that there are no strikes planned.

Hi, Giangilberto from Milan, as Roberto rightly says, you should check the ministry's official website, even if a strike is scheduled, it might still be called off. In any case, here is some useful information based on Italian strike regulations:
One: A strike doesn't halt all service for the entire day. For regional trains, guaranteed service runs from 6:00 to 9:00 and 18:00 to 21:00 on weekdays, and from 7:00 to 10:00 and 18:00 to 21:00 on public holidays. For long-distance trains, consult Tables A and B on the Trenitalia website.
Two: I recommend checking these tables now; there is no need to wait.

Three: A train already in transit when the strike begins will normally reach its destination if it can arrive within one hour of the start time. If it takes longer, it may stop short of the destination.
Four: Don't reschedule your trip based on the calendar date just yet, as strikes are often called off. Check again 48 hours in advance.
Many national strikes run from 21:00 the day before until 20:59 the following day.
This means the 24-hour period includes the evening prior.

I am reading mixed times for the rail strike planned for September 25-26. One site says it will begin on 9/25 at 9pm until 9pm the following day. Another site said it will begin on 9/25 at 8am and go until 9pm. Which is correct? We need to plan for transportation that day.

I’ve been in Italy a couple of times when train strikes are threatened.
One thing you can do to relieve anxiety is to book another night”s accommodation that can be cancelled last minute, to have in reserve in case you get stuck in a place due to a strike.
On a trip in 2024, I had cheap hotels booked in a few different places just in case.
Fortunately the strikes did not happen and I cancelled them all in time and was able to travel on our booked trains.
There is a phone number deep in the Trenitalia website where you can speak to an English-speaking staff person.
Also, you can go to a nearby station in advance of a threatened strike and ask a live person about which trains will run.
There are a number of smaller train companies/subsections as well as Trenitalia and Italo: Trenord, FAL for example, depending on the region.
You have to really comb through the site about strikes to find what you are looking for.

1) while in Amalfi, bus strike scheduled. Was it going to REALLY happen? Hotel owner said yes as the buses were also school transportation buses and as a parent they were notified that the strike was on and needed to make alternative plans.

2) apparently most times, strikes takes place after "rush" hour so Italians can get to work and then home. So strike MAYBE 9-6.

3) Amalfi again--of course no train, bus strike so I had to take the ferry to Salerno. Or you unfortunately have to leave a day early or day later, certainly all depends on the location, destination, etc.

Most strikes are scheduled on Fridays or Mondays, so that workers can enjoy a long weekend (Italians like their time off with the family and labor union leaders know that).

If you travel on days of the week that are not Fridays or Mondays, you should be safe.

so many thoughts and prayers along with tears for the destruction & damage from hurricane lala to your area of south point. small towns including pahala, punalu'u (known for black sand beach), na'alehu (punalu'u sweet bread bakery), waiohinu (mark twain monkey pod tree), discovery harbor and it's golf course, road to south point for it's popular green sand beach.
roads have been washed away, many residents are isolated without getting out, 2 deceased. no electricity, no water, no cable/internet, mud everywhere with homes uninhabitable or washed away. it is a very rural area, old sugar plantations, coffee and macnut farms, ranches.
may volunteers offering services, clearing roads, downed trees, electric companies working 24/7, food delivery from all over, non perishables, health & beauty supplies, medications. it's an absolute mess but lots of aloha from communities showing up.
the big island has lots of other damage throughout island that will take time to clean up.
i grew up in hilo and hamakua coast with family still there, spent time down ka'u with friends and loved it. with the crews busting their "okoles" to get services up and she will come back to the forum. me ke aloha XOXO

I've had my Italy itinerary and all bookings locked in for months - hotels, apartments, trains.

On September 26th I'm supposed to be departing Florence and heading to Bolzano via Italotreno 8954. I'm nervous this Train Strike is going to impact my travel plans. My accommodations in Ortisei were arranged months ago and paid in full.

Over the past 24hrs I've been frantically reading and trying to understand what my options are. The general consensus appears to be:

a) this strike may or may not happen - sometimes they are called off.
b) Some highspeed trains will still run in the event of a strike - Trenitalia and Italotreno will publish routes with guaranteed service in the event of a strike.

So far I haven't found any publication/announcement from Italotreno regarding guaranteed service routes - I understand this will happen but maybe closer to my departure date.

Correlating this information with the Trenitalia booking site I see Trenitalia 8502 is scheduled to run from Florence -> Bolzano on the September 26. Trenitalia 8502 is listed on the .pdf URL link above. How should I interpret this information? Will 8502 run on the 26th?

Please let me know your thoughts. I don't mind spending the extra $$ to book 8502 as a backup if my original Italotreno gets cancelled/disrupted.

Why should they upload a list of trains guaranteed to run during a strike if trains on that list could not run?

Yikes. I just looked at Sept. 30, my arrival date. Nationwide air traffic control strike planned for that day. My flight is scheduled to land at FCO 75 minutes before the strike begins.
