Greetings all, I am arriving in Milan on Sunday at 9:15 AM. We are scheduled to take train #37 from Milan to Venice. That particular train is listed in one of the pdf's as potentially guaranteed to run. My questions: 1) Is Trenord affected by the strike? There is a Trenord train that we could catch. 2) I have read that at some point, the trains that WILL be running are posted on the trenitalia site. Is this true, and if so, when?
3) Would train statuses be available in the Malpensa Station? ie, could I see that trying to get to Venice today is a lost cause, and take plan "B"?
Re #1 - Trenord is the local branch of Trenitalia, so the strike applies. For #2, see other recent postings on train strikes.
#3 - no idea. Good luck.
OK, good news I think!!! Trenitalia has posted the long distance trains and whether they will travel here: http://www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=ee46ffac8e157210VgnVCM1000004016f90aRCRD My train is listed as CONFERMATO. There is a possibility that the Malpensa Express trains will not run, but hopefully the bus will.
The notice posted in the Venice Santa Lucia train station regarding the strike says the following: The strike begins at 9:00pm on Saturday (today) and ends at 8:59pm on Sunday. Long-distance trains will run on a reduced schedule. Regional trains will either be cancelled or will run on a schedule that varies from the normal schedule.
I am now in Venice after a long day of flights and train rides. The Malpensa Express ran, as well as the train we were on. Several trains, including the one to Venice right before mine were cancelled.
