Train strike on September 20

Hello all!
I have seen the information about the guaranteed trains during train strikes and have looked at the charts. I don’t see any for our trip from Bologna to Bolzano. I have checked the ones that originate in Rome, that should go through Bologna, but no luck. Except for the evening, we would like to travel in the morning.

So, my question is, if you go to the train station the day before, on the 19th, will they know which trains will be running on the 20th? Or do you have to wait until the day of the strike? Also, I can’t find any information about Italo being part of the strike.

Thanks in advance!

As for September 20th, I can see only a strike of railway maintenance personnel in the Bologna area, I guess it will not affect very much train movements.

There are lists of guaranteed trains and those trains will travel. For trains out of the lists, if the necessary personnel does not strike they will run, but you cannot know in advance as the personnel has the right to strike or not without warning anyone.

The September 20 transport strike will affect local commuter trains, buses and trams--- and shouldn't impact high-speed trains of Trenitalia or Italo. Italo's website currently lists the September 8 nationwide rail strike. There is no mention of the September 20 transport strikes.

The Daily Express is reporting trams and buses are expected to be idled in both Palermo and the Milan metropolitan region. The metro in Milan is also expected to be significantly impacted.

Thank you lachera and Kecko. You have helped immensely in putting me at ease. There is sometimes too much information and also not enough information out there. I saw a post that said that there was a strike on the 20th, but now it seems that was incorrect.

On page 4 of https://scioperi.mit.gov.it/mit2/public/scioperi it lists several strikes on 20 Sept. I plan to go from Bolzano to Padova that day. Looking at the Trenitalia schedule some of the trains are Regionale and some are Frecciarossa.

Will this route be affected by the strike? If so would the Frecciarossa be exempt since they are hi-speed trains?

If you read carefully, most strikes are "trasporto pubblico locale", that are city buses and underground. Only a couple are "Ferroviario", that are railway workers, and on Sept. 20th go on strike the maintenance crews, only in the Bologna area. I guess, but I really do not know, that unless there is a sudden problem to the tracks fo fix immediately, a one-day strike of the maintenance crews does not change much.

Generally speaking, I find that once the strike list went online, a lot of people gets worried because they cannot make sense of it. First, it includes all forms of transportations, but of course an airplane strike does not affect trains. Also, most people usually do not make distinction between small and very small unions, that may go on strike and may affect a few trains but have not the power of paralyzing the train system, and the large unions that may bring the system to a standstill. In most cases, people are too worried.

Thanks for your reassurance and explanation, lachera. Since I don’t know what the difference is between the many union groups that are on the strike list, it does make some of us feel concerned. I am so looking forward to our visit to Italy. We have been many times, but have never had any issues with the train service.
