We will arrive in Rome at 5:00 pm if all goes according to plan. Will the Leonardo Express be running from the airport and could there be any issues with that trip on that evening?
Will the metro be running as usual?
Thanks!
The Metro (Rome ATAC) and the Leonardo Express (Trenitalia) are two different companies, so would not likely strike at the same time. But the Metro does not go to the Airport.
There is a second train line, still Trenitalia, the FL1 that serves the airport, does not go to Termini, but does stop at several other stations, and you can change to other lines, the metro, trams or buses.
In the event of a Trenitalia strike it usually does not mean all trains stop, it is likely that either the FL1 or the Leonardo Express would still be running.
Are the upcoming strikes for the Leonardo Express line?
Depends what days and what unions, there is no "one" group. I have not looked at the full list of what groups are striking. Beyond that, some basic services still run, but which ones are not always clear until closer to the strike, then of course, sometimes they limit or cancel the strike.
Have a backup, if no trains, there are buses, or taxis, or private drivers. If you are really concerned, hire a private driver well ahead of time.
The Leonardo Express is guaranteed in the event of strike
Thanks Paul and Jeff
I went to the site of your link Jeff and I am wondering if it is up to date because it says the trip to Termini is 14 euros. Hasn’t it gone up from that amount?
Just wondering.
As above, the Leonardo Express trains to/from Rome Fiumicino Airport will run as usual and are not affected by train strikes. Trenitalia’s website states the Fiumicino Airport to Rome Termini station service is “guaranteed even in the event of a strike.”
