We are renting a car to drive in the Tuscany/Umbria area. We would like to pick it up in Orvieto because the train station and rental car location are not far apart. However, we will be driving north to Venice after touring Tuscany/Umbria and will not be near Orvieto to return the car. Does anyone know of an easy place to return a rental car between the Assisi area and Venice where we could easily catch a train into Venice after dropping off the car? One problem we are finding is that most rental car companies are closed on Sundays. Right now, it looks like we have to drop the car off at the Venice airport and then shuttle to our hotel in Venice. Just wanted to see if anyone has better ideas! Thank you!

The Auto Europe site lists their downtown Venice office as being open 08:00-13:00 on Sundays with a drop box being available after hours.

I just answered another question hoping to reassure that dropping in Venice is easy, because the only road going in stops where the rental offices are. Also, dropping after hours (if you reserve through Autoeurope) is no problem. I take pictures of the car, though, in case there are damages claimed. I've never had that happen.

Thank you so much for the information! I was worried we'd be traveling way out of the way to drop off the car and would waste precious time.
