Train Stations help!

We have a couple of stops planned in Italy and can't figure out which train stations are the best for us.

  1. Florence from the Torre Guelfa hotel, to Sorrento, we need to get off and change trains in Naples and believe catch another type of train or ferry. What train station do we use in Florence, and Naples?

  2. Next stop is from Sorrento to Naples to Venice, which station do we catch the train at and arrive at?

Also what is the best way to get the tickets and reservations.

All assistance is appreciates, thanks!!

I would use the main stations. Florence is SMN (Santa Marie Novella), Naples ins Napoli Centrale, and I believe there is only one in Sorrento. Venice has only one, Venezia Santa Lucia.

Venice has two main stations and two minor ones.

For Venice on the Grand Canal - that is the one you almost certainly will want - it is Venezia Santa Lucia.

The transportation hub station on Venice's mainland near all the industrial areas and some residential areas is Venezia Mestre, often abbreviated to Mestre.

The two minor stations are for industrial and worker areas and you won't be interested in them, most probably.

Napoli Centrale to Venezia Santa Lucia.

The Circumvesuviana (and the Campania Express on the same route but with fewer locals, fewer trains and less hassle but lots more tourists) come and go from a station, Napoli Garibaldi, below Napoli Centrale, linked by stairs and escalators.

Rick's guidebooks include info on both topics. If you happen to have the big Italy 2018, the Florence hotel map on p. 521 shows proximity to the train station and pages 954 and 1004 discuss the Naples train connections.
