Venezia Santa Lucia to Padova

Train tickets here

To the hotel:

From the railway station take the tram to “Santo”, get off in “Santo” station, cross the road and take the first street on the right (via Locatelli).

Here is the map

From the train station in Padova, you can take the tram and get off at the Santo stop. The hotel Al Fagiano is not far from that stop, maybe a couple hundred yards.

Janet,

That's a very easy trip! As the others have mentioned, the stations are Venezia Santa Lucia and Padova. There are a variety of trains on that route including the high speed Freccia. The best "bang for the buck" is to use a Regionale Veloce as the travel time is only about 26 minutes (almost the same as the high speed), and yet the fare is only (currently) €4.10 PP. As with any Regionale train, DON'T forget to validate (time & date stamp) the ticket prior to boarding the train on the day of travel, or you'll risk hefty fines which will be collected on the spot!

When you exit the station in Padova, go slightly to the right and you'll see a ticket booth there for the Trams. The tram station that goes towards your hotel is across the street from the ticket office. If you'd prefer not to haul your luggage on the Tram, there are usually Taxis waiting in front of the station (that's the method I normally use when arriving in a new town). Travel by Taxi can sometimes take a bit longer as they have to stop and wait for the Trams, which travel on the same streets. I was getting a bit "tense" watching the meter climb higher while people were boarding & disembarking from the Trams. Even with the delays, it's not a long trip so usually not that expensive.

If Hotel Fagiano is the same place I'm thinking of, I enjoyed a fine meal at Ristorante al Fagiano one night (my hotel was in the same area). The dining area seemed very posh and perhaps a bit "formal", although the menu seemed a bit limited. If you're interested in a recommendation for another exceptional restaurant there, post another note (it's within walking distance from the area you're staying in, although the walk is much easier once you've done it a few times - there's also a Laundromat nearby). I also found a great restaurant for lunches.

If you are feeling uncertain about the tram, by all means go for a taxi. There were 3 of us and we just hopped in a taxi. I had the name of the Hotel Al Fagiano typed out and taped to an index card to show the driver. As Ken indicates it is a fairly quick trip.

BTW, the Hotel is very funky and funny. One of the owners is an artist and decorates the rooms so they are one of a kind. Slightly bizarre so take pictures and enjoy the whimsy!

Have some smaller bills for the ticket machines for your Venice -> Padova tickets.

Last year I stayed in a hotel around the corner from yours in Padua. It was €9 for a taxi from the train station. I don't want to figure out the trams or buses and then hunt for my hotel with my luggage in tow.
